The Hunter Dickinson Wingspan sports graphic was created for a Michigan Athletics children's workbook and is based on the Dallas Mavericks Athletic Roster Campaign, Science of Basketball.
In creating the Wingspan Graphic I kept in mind that the intended consumer was elementary and middle school aged youth. As a result of the consumer I used the Michigan maize and blue color palette due to its high contrast. I selected a Michigan athletics font that reflected athleticism and had easy readability through typography. The graphic elements I designed for the edges were minimal and impactful in the way they were scaled for different levels of visibility and had greater visual weight than the original Dallas Mavericks graphic.
For nationally recognized causes, events and holidays Michigan Athletics creates graphics that are shown on social media platforms including instagram, tiktok, and Facebook et cetera and they are also sent out in official Michigan Athletics correspondence such as email blasts.
I designed a Kwanzaa graphic using the holidays color palette of black, red, and green and the Kinara, the traditional Kwanzaa candle display. Finding a balance between Michigan Athletics branding and the traditions of Kwanzaa was through color was important to the design. In terms of phrasing, "Joyous Kwanzaa" is the official greeting for the Kwanzaa holiday.
